APRIL 22, 2025
Dear Friends:
This Earth Month, we are in a moment of crisis—and clarity.
Give before APRIL 30 and your donation to SF Bay Physicians for Social Responsibility will go directly to the Dr. Tom Hall Student and Young Professionals Fund, supporting the next generation of health professionals working at the intersection of science, justice, and climate.
And every donation will be matched 2-to-1 by our amazing board members!
PLEASE GIVE HERE!
Why? Because the stakes have never been higher.
In just the first 100 days of this administration, we’ve seen the unraveling of hard-won climate progress—even here in California. We’re facing:
- Rollbacks of state and federal climate protections
- Increased threats of nuclear escalation
- Political attacks on scientists and health professionals in both government and nonprofit sectors
- The loss of critical environmental justice funding meant to protect frontline communities
At SF Bay PSR, we’ve already felt the impact. Our organization lost $90,000 in funding—part of a targeted political attack on the Environmental Justice program at CalEPA. That grant was intended to train health professionals to work closely with communities in Bayview Hunters Point, one of San Francisco’s most environmentally burdened neighborhoods. Now, that work has been paused. Our EJ colleague organizations have lost so much more.

No administration—Democratic or Republican—should be allowed unchecked power to weaponize the government against its political opponents or to silence critics. What we’re witnessing isn’t just policy rollback—it’s a deliberate attempt to intimidate and dismantle the voices of those working for justice, health, and truth.
This is an attack on all of us—no exceptions.
When the government punishes those who speak up for communities such as Bayview Hunters Point, it sends a chilling message to anyone who dares to advocate for clean air, safe housing, or health equity. That’s why we’re doubling down this Earth Month—to make sure the next generation of health professionals can rise to this moment, undeterred.
By supporting the Dr. Tom Hall Fund, you’re helping us train and support early-career health professionals who are committed to environmental justice, public health, and truth-telling in a time of disinformation. These future leaders are essential—not just for rebuilding what’s been lost, but for envisioning and building what comes next.
And right now, you can triple your impact.
Our Board of Directors will match all donations 2-to-1 through April 30.
- A $50 gift becomes $150
- A $100 gift becomes $300
- And every dollar supports bold, brilliant young leaders we urgently need

The Dr. Tom Hall Fund honors the legacy of our late board member—a physician, advocate, and mentor who believed deeply in lifting up young people as agents of change. He knew that in moments like this, our best defense is a well-supported next generation.
THANK YOU for standing with us in this fight!
With gratitude and urgency,
Dr. Robert M. Gould
SF Bay PSR President
